Suzanne “Sue” Lee Chan 陳李素英 was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois to immigrant parents from Guangdong, China.
Sue earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Illinois and a Master of Science in Immunology with Honors at Cal State Los Angeles. A former clinical bacteriologist, researcher at the National Institutes of Health, and adjunct at a number of San Francisco Bay Area Community Colleges teaching Microbiology/Immunology, she has had a long standing connection to education.
A long-time community activist and leader, Sue served as City of Fremont Vice Mayor and Councilmember. She was elected to the Ohlone Board of Trustees in 2018 and is currently serving as Chair of the Board.
She is the 2nd Vice President of the California Community College Trustees (CCCT), a member of the State DEIA Steering Committee as Co-Chair of Diversity in Hiring; and Chair of AAPITA - the Asian American Pacific Islander Trustees and Administrators Caucus.
While always on the non-stop Merry Go Round of Life, her greatest joy these days is being Grandmother/PoPo to Cameron, Sasha, and Alexandra.
